So we were learning about free-from poetry today in English. We read some excerpts from a poem called Spoon River Anthology. I was greatly inspired and immediately I got this picture in my head of what I wanted to write about. This picture is pretty much the exact thing I saw in my head. weird. well anyway, here is the poem... *oh, and also, credit to whoever took this picture. I found it on Photo bucket* They call this road I walk 'Resurrection Lane', but life in this place seems unapparent. The crunch of the autumn leaves under my feet, the only sound that fills my ears. An air of death spins circles around my being, it's eloquent dance sends a chill of apprehensiveness down my spine. When I finally reach the 4th tree in, my legs lead me down the row of buried, decaying corpses. A pleasant sight, I think to myself. An eerie gift of peace from the cycle of life. My thoughts are interrupted when I reach a familiar place. Day in and day out, my eyes fall onto the same stone. A recognizable tear slowly makes its way down my trembling cheek, Like a casket in a funeral precession, As I attempt to bless my sinful soul, I pray to whomever is out there, That I might be worthy enough to come across the one closest to my heart. A gust of wind blows, and the answer is revealed. The conversation begins. I can faintly hear his voice once again, 9 years since I last heard it’s soothing tone, It does not seem to be altered by the long journey back home. “I’m still here” he says, the ringing in my ears beginning to calm my body. Although my mind is racing with words begging to reach the purse of my lips, Only three I allow to escape into the crisp air of the season. In a hush tone, the phrase “I miss you” barely rolls off my tongue.
